Umbrella Multicultural Community Care Services

As an aged care organisation supporting seniors from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and older people identifying as LGBTI+, Umbrella Multicultural Community Care has always had strong connections with the communities it serves.
Umbrella’s founding CEO, Anna Harrison, is very aware of how important it is for older people to be able to maintain and express their language, culture and identify. And she has always made sure that clients and caregivers are front and centre of what Umbrella does – even more crucial during the COVID pandemic with all its challenges.
During lockdowns, the Umbrella team organised Internet Café sessions via Zoom and a Library on Wheels, delivering books, DVDs etc from Umbrella’s Multicultural Library to clients isolated at home. And under Anna’s leadership, Umbrella made sure that clients and caregivers from diverse backgrounds received information about COVID in their language. Information sessions about COVID vaccines were also delivered in different languages and were an opportunity for seniors to ask lots of questions.
Anna has always been a very strong advocate for seniors from diverse backgrounds and will continue her tireless advocacy work in a volunteer role after she retires in early July.
