Southern Cross Care NSW & ACT’s leading model of care and engagement program has residents at the centre of the decision-making process. Since its introduction, we have recorded a reduction in depression, falls, responsive behaviours, and boredom.
Residents are provided with confidence to continue doing what they like to do. Their interests, needs, wants, and preferences drive our day-to-day activities and programs.
The program is designed and facilitated by in-house experts, including an Engagement and Purposeful Living Manager, Diversional Therapists, Dementia and Engagement Advisor, and Lifestyle Coordinators.
As engagement innovators, we have introduced virtual activities that promote residents’ psychological, spiritual, social, emotional, and physical well-being. Programs include armchair travel, quiz competitions, art workshops, Memory Link and Moove and Groove (music-based programs) as well as the Tovertafel platform offering purposeful activities for those with cognitive impairment.
We create engaging environments, including indoor and outdoor spaces, sensory gardens and activity stations available to residents 24/7.
Personalised kits are prepared for residents if they need to isolate due to COVID-19 based on their preferences, including cognitive activities, colouring-in, books, games, sensory items, music and movies. Other strategies include using technology to maintain connections, exercise programs, and hallway activities such as bingo.
