Marlene commenced in January as Club Reablement Coordinator and hit the ground running with zest, enthusiasm and excitement. Since then, she has connected with staff, volunteers and members taking the time to find out what makes people tick. Marlene’s initial focus has been new opportunities and partnerships to enhance club members’ wellbeing.
Becoming aware of a facilitator who specialises in ‘ageing and exercising gracefully’ Marlene engaged them to host regular sessions. The Club team is initiating walking challenges to promote active ageing and encourage members to visit their local community spaces.
Marlene partnered with Playgroups WA resulting in meaningful weekly intergenerational morning teas at our dementia specialised club. Members enjoy sing-alongs, nursing babies, interacting with youngsters and having a chat with mums/caregivers.
Another new connection is with Melodies and Memories Choir joining for weekly dementia inclusive music/singing.
After meeting the Director of the Clontarf Academy (Swan View Senior High School) Marlene planned interaction of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander boys with our members for mentoring opportunities and intergenerational learning.
With such progress exploring community connection in Marlene’s first 6 months and witnessing drive and passion alongside her valued team, we can anticipate the next 6 months will be just as exhilarating!
