ACSA has been awarded Federal Government funding to develop and deliver an evidence-based, industry-led Aged Care Transition to Practice Program for nurses within the aged care sector, from 2020-21 to June 2023. Join our online information session and learn more about the program, including how your organisation can get involved.
Aged care faces a significant shortfall in registered nurses in facilities across the country, with the 2016 Census of Aged Care revealing that 41 per cent of all aged care facilities reported skills shortages for registered nurses, with 80 per cent stating this was due to a lack of suitable applicants.
The objective of ACSA’s 12-month program is to increase the availability of registered nurses (RN’s) with experience and training in aged care. This program will enable newly graduated nurses to become confident, safe, competent, and professional practitioners in a range of aged care settings.
The aim of the Aged Care Transition to Practice Program is to:
- Provide a supportive environment for graduate RNs in their initial year of clinical practice;
- Build upon the clinical skills RNs develop during their university studies with capabilities specifically required for the aged care sector;
- Increase the attractiveness of aged care nursing through mentorship and building career pathways; and
- Enhance provider capability to attract, develop and retain new nurses to the aged care sector.
